​​Organic Raw Detox Cleanse Food
Eating organic raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and dry fruits offers numerous health benefits, including improved digestion, increased nutrient intake, and potentially enhanced immunity. These foods are also naturally high in fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins and minerals. 

Liquid Nutrient Extractions
A nutrition plan where you consume nothing but Liquid Nutrient Extractions (aka smoothies), nuts and dried fruits for a certain number of days. When you ‘powerfully blend’ them, also referred to as “nutrient extraction”, you're consuming all the nutrients and antioxidants from the fruits and vegetables in a digestible form. This means that your body can absorb all the goodness and benefits they have to offer.


Solid Food
You may choose solid food for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner; consisting of fruit salad, salad with vegetables (raw or lightly steamed); with dry-roasted nuts and dried fruits.

Your food is provided washed and ready for mixing and blending, which the retreatants do themselves, for the following reasons:
  • In order to take maximum advantage of the nutrients, the smoothie should be consumed immediately or within 20 minutes.
  • It will give you some practice in preparing your meals and sticking to a schedule, (without the hassle of buying and cleaning the ingredients).  You will take this practice home with you for new healthy lifestyle routine.
  • Your privacy is guaranteed, you won't be disturbed 6 times a day by a food delivery.​

​Liquid Nutrient Extraction Mixes
Combine least one type of fruit and one type of vegetable in the blender cup, fill to the top with apple juice or spring water. It is important to add lemon & ginger for balance of heat in your body and to make your drink alkaline. Use the following suggestions as a starting point to invent your own combinations:
  • Carrot, Apple, Lemon, Ginger
  • Orange or Grapefruit, Celery, Lemon, Ginger
  • Apple or Pear, Celery, Lemon, Ginger
  • Pineapple, Cucumber, Lemon, Ginger​
  • Grapefruit, Beets, Lemon, Ginger

​Recommended Practices:
  • Partial Fasting: Avoid all food and drinks (except water and herbal tea), between dinner and breakfast time. The body needs to experience 12-16 hours of partial fasting to cleanse itself during the night.
  • Lightly Steamed Vegetables: such as Yam, Beet, Carrot, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Kale, Asparagus are easier for your body to digest.​
  • Allow at least 2 hours between meals &/or drinks
  • Drink 8-10 cups of water &/or herbal teas daily. (add lemon &/or pinch of salt to alkaline - optional maple sugar for teas).
  • Add water to vegetables in the fridge after 48 hours. Adding a pinch of salt is optional. Change the water every 48 hours.

We provide naturally alkaline Denman Spring Water with a pH of 7.2 - 7.4, close or equal to our blood which is pH 7.34 - 7.35.

Meals Fresh-Frozen  |  from our freezer ► to your freezer
"Fresh Frozen" means that as soon as the food has cooled down sufficiently to be frozen, it is done rapidly to seal in the flavor and nutrients. The food is stored in our commercial freezer until ordered by a guest. Then it is transferred to their unit's freezer, to be defrosted and warmed up by the guest when they are ready.
 
  1. Grocery shopping, including Denman Island-grown fresh produce (if possible/available), is a service that we provide. This can be very useful if you are flying and don't know the area, especially if you are arriving late and it's a tight schedule; or if you are traveling 'on foot' and using the shuttle, bus, etc. Allow us to take that worry off your shoulders.

    Friday is baking day, collect from the bakery after 2:00 pm or catch them at the Saturday Morning Market next to the recycling centre (ordering in advance is recommended!). Bagels, pitta bread, challah bread, focaccia, sourdough and whole wheat loaves, donuts and cinnamon buns.

  • Corlan Vineyard and Farm, Denman Island's Gold Medal-winning organic/vegan boutique winery.
  • Hornby Co-op on Hornby Island has just about everything you could need and a good selection of organic produce.
  • Weinberg's in Buckley Bay - an organic grocery next to the ferry terminal and behind the PetroCanada Station. It's an excellent place to stock up on your way to Denman Island. Weinberg's is open daily, 10-5.

  • ​Edible Island Whole Foods Market in Courtenay -  Drive 20 km North to Courtenay and head for 6th Street. All organic produce. Otherwise Thrifty's is the first store you reach and the Real Canadian Superstore is five minutes on, across the river.
 
Eating Out on Denman
To eat out when staying at Manna House, you really need transport. Everything except Corlan Vineyard is in "the village" which is approximately 6km, and involves one steep hill. Corlan is about the same distance in the other direction.

​The Guesthouse Bistro - excellent homemade food, mostly organic and locally sourced, and a wonderful island atmosphere where you can find locally crafted wares and pantry staples. Watch for open mic nights, gigs and events.

Organic / Local Food Policy
To us, organic certification is only what we look for when we don't know the source directly; we believe buying organic produce that is uncertified, but local, is a much better option.
​To explain, whilst local farmers and food producers might practice organic methods because they believe in it, obtaining organic certification is too expensive for most of these small-medium scale operators. Thereby the farmers who care the most about the land and the way that they farm it, are excluded by a system designed to favour large-scale agri-businesses that can afford to go through the certification process. Recognising this makes it even more important for us to support local food producers who do the right thing regardless, and being local has the added advantage that we can visit them and see for ourselves!
Plus, you can see through their websites that they all have a commitment to our wellbeing, their community; and to the environment they share with us, and not least you can tell by the quality and purity ​of their food that graces our tables. So if they say it's organic, we know we can trust them, and if they don't make the claim directly ​​but provide enough information for that to be inferred, that works for us.
The Shared Kitchen is accessed from the inside back door of the unit into the common area.​
For the maximum safety of our guests post Covid; pots, pans, dishes and cutlery, are stored in the bar of each room.​
