Chrome Island and Hornby Island : 5 hours
Heading South along the Western shore of Denman, looking out for orcas, grey whales, humpbacks, dolphins and porpoises, you'll round the South end taking in Chrome Island Lighthouse before crossing the Lambert Channel to Hornby, stopping at Ford's Cove Marina, then around the tip of Helliwell Park where seals and sealions hang-out and on to Tribune Bay (swimming beach) and/or Whaling Station Bay for a picnic*, and where you can also ride a paddleboard!
|
Sandy Island Bird Reserve : 4 hours
After enjoying some time out on the open ocean between Denman and Comox, and looking out for the cetaceans (orcas, grey whales, humpbacks, dolphins and porpoises) that inhabit these waters, the desination for a picnic* is the shore of Sandy Island Bird Reserve, where you'll be able to try your hand at paddleboarding! (Check out the slide show, below, of our recent trip...)

|
Orcas, grey whales, humpbacks, dolphins and porpoises can all be found in the waters around these islands. Being wild, of course, they don't perform to schedule, so sightings, and especially close sightings, are not guaranteed. The 2 captains know where to look and will do their best to find them, but they are only allowed to approach within a certain distance and will not put the animals, or their licences, at risk; so please don't ask them to get any closer!
But as we all know these are curious creatures and will sometimes come to check-out the boat, in which case the engine is switched off and you can (quietly) enjoy the show until they have moved on.
