3-10 day Raw Food Detox Retreats
​​For most people, a 5–7-day cleanse is recommended for optimal results.
3-4 Day Raw Food Detox - Beginner​
A 3–4-day cleanse/detox is just long enough to provide benefits like improved digestion, improved energy levels, clearer thoughts, better moods, and deeper more restful sleep. 3-4 days is long enough for kicking unhealthy cravings to the curb, but short enough that beginners can tackle it on the first try. The 3-4 Day cleanse is designed to set you up for success or provide more experienced cleansers with a nice reboot.
5-7 Day Raw Food Detox - Intermediate & Beginner Friendly - Most Recommended
​A 5–7-day cleanse is best for people who have more aggressive health goals. These cleanses help you to reconnect with your body’s true hunger signals, increase your energy levels, and help improve mental clarity. 5–7-day intermediate cleanses are suitable to help lose unwanted weight, plus improvements with various health concerns such as arthritic discomfort, skin ailments, reflux and digestive health concerns, to name a few.
8-10 Day Raw Food Detox – Advanced
​An 8–10-day cleanse retreat is recommended if you’re an experienced, regular cleanser or if you’re looking for a complete overhaul, or if you are ready to make a lifestyle change. These cleanses help you to tackle unhealthy habits, aid with weight loss, and provide a total-body reset to help you crush long-term goals!
​If you have more long-standing health concerns then a longer cleanse may be suggested. The rule of thumb in chronic health conditions is the longer a health concern has been present and the more severe the condition, the longer it will take to improve. People can comfortably cleanse for up to 30 days or more under the guidance of a health care professional.
Consult Your Doctor: The Spa Detox Retreats, including the Meditation program, may not be suitable for individuals who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness or a mental-emotional disorder, if you're breastfeeding, pregnant, have diabetes, are taking medications, or have other health issues. Please consult your doctor if you have any such concerns.
Arrival Day
What to Expect on Day 1
​Arrive any time after 3:30 pm and preferably before 5:30. Your host will provide some orientation and you can enjoy your retreat meal, private garden, chlorine-free hot tub, cold tub, hammock & firepit.  

Late arrival? No problem! If travel arrangements prevent you from arriving until later, the last ferry leaves Vancouver Island for Denman Island at 9:30 pm. most of the year, and in the Summer at 11:00 pm!

The first day of your journey can be the most difficult. You might experience some unpleasant side effects such as headaches, fatigue or nausea as your body adjusts to the cleanse. You should always check with your doctor if you have any concerns. Here are a few suggestions to help you get through day one:
  • You may be using the bathroom frequently, so drink plenty of water and other fluids to stay hydrated
  • Take a hot bath/hot tub or shower, to help relieve any tension headaches
  • Book a sauna session
  • Book a Massage or Shiatsu session
  • Get plenty of rest and relax as much as possible
  • Don’t work out or do any strenuous activity
How to get through Day 1 ~ Relax...
To get through Day 1 ~ Relax, in the tub (unit 3), in a hammock, Scandinavian sauna, hot tub and cold plunge, infrared sauna, in your private garden, or book a massage, all at Manna House
 
Recommended Daily Activities
​Listen to your mind/body and choose the best options for you.
  • Wake up with the sunrise
  • First 30 minutes & last 30 minutes of the day - develop a Positive Mindset Habit, such as Sun Salutation, Yoga, Tai Chi, or Meditation 
  • Stick to light physical activity. While it's a good idea to tone down your exercise routine during a cleanse, light activities help boost blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Self-guided activities could include meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, gentle walking, perhaps at sunset on the beach...
  • ​In your private garden, repeat the Hydrotherapy Spa Circuit: Hot > Cold > Relax
  • A daily infrared sauna session is included in this retreat, the timing is a matter of personal choice but it's a good idea to make it roughly the same time every day, thereby allowing the maximum time between sessions.
  • ​An ocean foot soak or swim for penetration of mineral salts​
  • Breathing Exercises
  • Try to get plenty of rest, take a nap during the day and go to bed as early as you can (before 10.00 pm) 
​It's a good idea to prepare for emotions that may arise. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is associated with anger, the kidneys with fear, and the spleen with worry. Old emotions may arise and be cleansed from the system as the corresponding organs are cleansed.
Light Walking
For light walking, it's 2 minutes to the beach ↕
​Keep a Journal – 30-40 minutes a day 
  • keep a journal next to your bed.
  • Before going to bed, write down the events of the day, from that moment going backwards to the time when you woke up
  • Before opening your eyes or making any movements in the morning, remember your dreams. If you do remember any, review them and write them down, before doing anything else.

"Coming-Off" a Cleansing Detox  |  Post Retreat Strategy
​The day after the cleanse, eat primarily raw or lightly steamed vegetables, fruit, or nuts. Portion sizes should be small, and the diet should be very similar to what you did to prepare for the cleanse — organic or Non-non GMO, no sugar, coffee, wheat, gluten-containing foods, processed foods, and mass produced dairy.
​The next day, include more plant foods, such as beans and basmati rice in your diet. Continue adding back foods you’d like to have in your regular diet. Third day after the fast, resume eating regular meals. If you eat meat, add it to Lunch only (avoid all red meet if possible).
Identify Your Allergies
You can use the days after a cleanse to identify your reactions to foods. To do this, keep a journal and reintroduce foods systematically, noting any changes in energy, digestion, cravings, or other symptoms.
​For example, gluten may be introduced in small amounts on the first day. Then note what happens over the 24– to 48-hour period after reintroducing each food. Dairy is another food category that is often reintroduced carefully and tested.
How Often Can I Cleanse?
​This is a general guideline to follow for the frequency of your raw food cleanses. Keep in mind that we are all different, and these recommendations may not suit everyone.
  • 1 day cleanse – once a week
  • 3 day cleanse - once a month
  • 4-6 day cleanse – once every 2-3 months
  • 7-14 day cleanse - once every 4-6 months

    I spent a wonderful 2 weeks at the Manna House on Denman Island in Vancouver British Columbia recently. I was looking for a quiet retreat in a peaceful place where I could meditate, detox, relax, and detach from my world. Manna House turned out to be the best choice. My hotel room was cozy, clean, and beautiful with all that I needed to unwind and relax. Open to the great outdoors and surrounded by a forest of beautiful fir trees overlooking the bay, it was a wonderful place to regain my calm. Mark the proprietor was awesome and very attentive to my needs and comfort. Mitra was my spiritual leader/teacher from whom I learned to meditate and engage in yoga exercises. The food was fresh and natural. Mitra and Mark are warm compassionate people who have built a wonderful retreat in a beautiful part of the world. I spent my time enjoying the beautiful nature during my long walks and drinking in the cold fresh air. It was quiet and serene. I will return one day to this beautiful place hopefully sooner rather than later. I would highly recommend the Manna House for anyone looking for the same experience. You won't regret it. The price is right and you have nothing to lose but your stress and tension.

    This place is truly divine—a hidden gem on the east side of Denman Island, facing Hornby Island. This was my second visit, and I plan to return every few months to recharge. It’s the perfect sanctuary for reconnecting with nature and finding peace.
    The retreat offers breathtaking scenery, from lush greenery to the vast ocean, and every detail is designed to blend seamlessly with the environment. The accommodations are superb with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay, including chef-prepared healthy food items that you can order in advance and simply heat up during your stay.
    The huge windows showcasing nature and a private outdoor space complete with a hot tub, cold tub, and resting area are unmatched. The focus on sustainability makes the experience even more special.
    The service is outstanding. Mark and the staff are incredibly attentive, responding quickly to any message, ensuring every detail of your stay is perfect.

    I needed a place to go to remove myself from the noise of life. I had not managed the stressors in my life appropriately and needed a reset. That is when I found Manna House.

    Everywhere on this island tends towards natural BC beauty. Manna House is the west coast curated by a landscape artist surrounded by a cutting edge spa. My Scandinavian soul was in heaven in the ocean beach sauna. Looking forward to returning midwinter. Woke up in the middle of the night looking straight up into starry starry night.     "...a beautiful oasis for decompressing, taking a pause and basically being surrounded by the beauty and medicine of nature. I didn’t realize how badly I needed stillness until I felt it again sitting in the glass front sauna staring at the ocean, hanging out with a good book for hours. I even found building the fire incredibly meditative. As a single female traveler I was a bit nervous but once I got there I realized the set up was incredibly private and safe because your staying in a house that’s been converted to several units so you get the best of solitude and the safety of neighbours nearby... This is someone who cares about every person who comes onto his property. Loved the private cedar hot tub too, it was like relaxing in liquid aromatherapy. I’ll be back for sure!"

    I can’t say enough positive things about Manna House as a place to stay and rejuvenate. I did the 4 day organic raw food detox stay by myself. It was my first time being away by myself from all members of my family in 17 years. The detox and hot tub/cold plunge schedule gave me a focus over the four days but I was free to change it how I wanted. I felt safe and calm the entire time I was at Manna House and enjoyed some walks along the beach and on the cross Denman trail. It was rainy and windy during my stay and I could warm up with a sauna or hot tub after a brisk walk. I saw eagles and otters along the beach, as well as many other shore birds. Mark was kind, thoughtful, hospitable, excellent host offering more or less contact as requested. I would stay here and do the detox program again.

    Upon arrival, we were immediately captivated by the resort's charm. The rooms exuded an inviting and homely ambiance. The highlight, however, was the Japanese hot tub in each room's garden. The soothing hot water and tranquil atmosphere provided a perfect retreat after a day of exploration.

    ...The wooden sauna located right on the beach was a true delight. The scent of the sea mingling with the aromatic wood created an incredible sensory experience. And for those seeking an alternative, the infra-red sauna provided a rejuvenating and detoxifying session.

    The range of activities... was impressive. From mountain bikes to a kayak and a canoe, there was no shortage of ways to explore the picturesque surroundings. And when the sun began to set, gathering around the fire pits to roast BBQ under a clear, star-filled sky was an experience I won't soon forget...

    "I am at home now, and reflecting on my experience at Manna House. Firstly, you should know how relaxed and genuinely happy I am. My experience was even better than I could have hoped for.
    From the moment Mark picked me up on Denman Island, I knew I was in for an amazing time.
    I stayed in the Eagle View Room which was spectacular. My own garden, hot tub and cold plunge and large yard. Also a top deck to enjoy my breakfast outside. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, with a beautiful large soaker tub to relax in. Through my front window I had an amazing view of the ocean and beautiful sunrises and sunsets, which I took many pictures of.
    On the Ocean, there was a steam sauna to gaze out at the ocean and have a cold rain shower when I got out of the sauna. Probably my most favorite sauna was the infrared sauna. In fact I loved it so much, I just purchased one for my personal use at home. (I have only been home for 2 days)
    Finally I had a massage with Erin. It was honestly the best massage I have ever had.
    ...if you are looking for a place to unwind, unplug, and pamper your mind, soul and body, this is the place for you.

    Manna House is a haven for rejuvenation and relaxation. I highly recommend! 

    Manna House was a wonderful retreat experience. Mark, the owner was very kind and checked in through text regularly to ensure everything was ok, while maintaining guests' privacy.

    The Ocean Sauna and fire pit were my favourite part of the experience. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts were always available in quantity.

    Now the food…it was amazing—so much variety that we were excited to decide what we’d prepare every meal.
