    Manna House is a haven for rejuvenation and relaxation. I highly recommend! 

    Manna House was a wonderful retreat experience. Mark, the owner was very kind and checked in through text regularly to ensure everything was ok, while maintaining guests' privacy.

    The Ocean Sauna and fire pit were my favourite part of the experience. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts were always available in quantity.

Mindfulness Meditation
Each day an attachment to a sense is released with 8+ hours of specific traditional Tibetan based "Mindful Awareness" daily active meditation practices, e.g. sitting, walking, hot tub bathing, fire staring, sauna, and resting meditations.. Plus Sun Salutation yoga or spine stretching exercises in the mornings. The goal is to personally Experience "Present Moment Awareness", and to establish a routine for future practices and the development of "Clear Mind".
(Pre-requisite to the 10 day Mahamudra Meditation Retreat.)

Before Arrival
Practice "Sun Salutation" Yoga.
Arrival Day
Check-in: 3:30 - 5:30 pm.
​After some 'orientation', you can enjoy your first retreat meal, check out the beach, soak in the chlorine-free hot tub in your private garden, ideally followed by a cold plunge, then a rest in a hammock and star-gazing next to the fire pit.
Late arrival? No problem! If travel arrangements prevent you from arriving until later, the last ferry leaves Vancouver Island for Denman Island at 9:30 pm. most of the year, and in the Summer at 11:00 pm!

11am: Personal Meeting with Mitra • Introduction & Meditation Instructions
Days 2-5
20 Minute daily phone meeting with meditation instructions and practices.
Sun Salutation yoga or spine stretching exercises in the mornings.
8+ hours of Daily Active Meditation, including, sitting, walking, bathing, hot tub, sauna, fire gazing, resting, etc.

Departure Day
Morning activities are flexible, because the timing of your check-out is largely dependent on your travel schedule and when you need to catch the ferry, so nothing is set in stone apart from getting you to the ferry on time!

  • Your ensuite room (we recommend "Ocean Spray" for meditation and so have reserved 11 nights per month for this retreat ~ please inquire )

The Food (& Water)

​​Raw food cleanse/detox
is a nutrition plan where you consume nothing but liquid nutrient extractions (aka smoothies) full of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds for a certain number of days. The purpose of the cleanse is to absorb as many quality nutrients as possible while giving your digestive system a break.
​Choose the diet that fits your body and your cleanse/detox retreat goals. The simple liquid diets will achieve deeper and quicker results. ​For a more balanced drink, we suggest using vegetables as the base of your juice and adding one fruit for a touch of sweetness.
​​​While cleansing, it is important to stick to a daily routine and schedule as much as possible. This will help your body adjust and make the days easier for you. 
Raw Food, 4 Days, 1 Person
Raw Food, 4 Days, 1 Person. (Another bag of salad greens is supplied on day 3, and replenishments are always available for everything else.) The food on the right (to be kept in the fridge) is washed, chopped and ready to blend. Fruit that would spoil if the skins were removed is washed and ready for you to chop. ↕

​Raw Solid Food  (Twice a day)
We recommend 2 of the 6 meals in your daily diet to be solid raw food. It's up to you which 2 of the 6 meals are raw, best when you're feeling hungry or low on energy during the day.

​Blend-it-Yourself
  •  the rationale
The food is provided ready for blending, which the retreatant does themselves, for the following reasons:
  • In order to take maximum advantage of the nutrients the smoothie should be consumed immediately, or at least within 20 minutes.
  • Perhaps most important, is that it will give you some practice in making smoothies and sticking to a schedule, (but without the hassle of buying and preparing the ingredients), so that you will take this practice away with you and continue making smoothies when you get home.
  • Your privacy is guaranteed, you won't be disturbed 5 times a day by a smoothie delivery.
  • It keeps the cost down, the retreat is less expensive than it would be if staff had to make the smoothies for you.

​​Raw Food Detox • Sample Menu Plan
  • Wake up with the sunrise: Lukewarm or room temperature water with sea salt and/or lemon juice to taste
  • 8 - 9 a.m. (Breakfast, after 1-2 hours): Nut Milk: Add one handful of mixed nuts, and a spoonful of honey to spring water and blend. Drink 'straight' for breakfast and/or use for blending fruit smoothies. (*Or Solid Raw Food)
  • 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.: Liquid Nutrient Extraction
  • 1 - 2 p.m. (Lunch): Liquid Nutrient Extraction (*Or Solid Raw Food)
  • 3 - 4 p.m.: Liquid Nutrient Extraction
  • 5 - 6 p.m. (Dinner): Liquid Nutrient Extraction (*Or Solid Raw Food)
  • 6 - 8 p.m.: Liquid Nutrient Extraction ​
  • Spring Water and/or Herbal Tea with Lemon or Honey (optional), throughout the day​
* Or Solid Raw Food: Two meals/day are recommended to be solid raw vegetables, fruits, nuts & seeds; 
  • Allow a minimum of 2 hours between meals &/or drinks
  • Important: Avoid all food and drinks (except water and herbal tea), between dinner and breakfast time, at least 12 hours. The body needs to experience partial fasting and clean itself during the night.

​Recommended Practices:
  • Add pinch of salt &/or cayenne pepper to liquid drinks.
  • Drink 8-10 cups of water &/or herbal teas; no sweeteners. (add lemon &/or salt to alkaline).
  • Add water to Vegetables in the fridge after 48 hours. A pinch of salt is optional. Change the water every 48 hours
  • Do not consume anything at least 3 hours before going to bed

​Benefits
​There are many benefits to eating cleansing raw fruits, nuts and vegetables as smoothies. When you ‘powerfully blend’ them, also referred to as “nutrient extraction”, you're consuming all the nutrients and antioxidants from the fruits and vegetables in a digestible form. This means that your body can absorb all the goodness and benefits they have to offer.

Infrared Sauna • daily sessions
The in-house, full-spectrum, medical grade Infrared Sauna is included for 1-2 people, for private daily sessions lasting up to 3 hours, including 60 minutes IR exposure. 
​
Relax with a private West-facing garden view. The interior is exquisitely hand-crafted from sustainably grown Canadian Basswood, the least allergenic wood in North America. It's assembled without glue from thick planks, so the sauna is toxin-free, and finished with 100% natural beeswax. With the lowest EMF of any sauna in the world (up to 80X lower than other brands on the market), it is safe for people with electrical sensitivities.
Medical grade infrared saunas employ ceramic elements so they don’t overheat the air, so when you’re sitting inside an infrared sauna, taking a breath is comfortable. What to Expect on Day 1 of Detoxing
​The first day of your detox journey can be the most difficult. You might experience some unpleasant side effects such as headaches, fatigue or nausea as your body adjusts to the cleanse. You should always check with your doctor if you have any concerns. Here are a few suggestions to help you get through day one:
  • You may be using the bathroom frequently, so drink plenty of water and/or herbal tea to stay hydrated
  • Take a hot bath/hot tub or shower, to help relieve any tension headaches
  • Book a sauna session
  • Book a Massage or Shiatsu session
  • Get plenty of rest and relax as much as possible
  • Don’t work out or do any strenuous activity

Recommended Daily Activities
Mind-Body Exercise Recommendations
​Take a few minutes, two or three times a day minimum, to do some or all of the following.
​Listen to your mind/body and choose the best options for you.
  • Wake up with the sunrise
  • First 30 minutes & last 30 minutes of the day - develop a Positive Mindset Habit, such as Sun Salutation, Yoga, Tai Chi, or Meditation 
  • Stick to light physical activity. While it's a good idea to tone down your exercise routine during a cleanse, light activities help boost blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Self-guided activities could include meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, gentle walking, perhaps at sunset on the beach...
  • ​In your private garden, repeat the Hydrotherapy Spa Circuit: Hot > Cold > Relax
  • A daily infrared sauna session is included in this retreat, the timing is a matter of personal choice but it's a good idea to make it roughly the same time every day, thereby allowing the maximum time between sessions.
  • ​An ocean foot soak for penetration of mineral salts​
  • Breathing Exercises e.g.: Wim Hoff & Diaphragmatic Breathing
  • Progressive Muscle Relaxation Training
  • Try to get plenty of rest, go to bed as early as you can (at least by 10.00 pm) and take naps if possible​
​It's a good idea to prepare for emotions that may arise. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is associated with anger, the kidneys with fear, and the spleen with worry. Old emotions may arise and be cleansed from the system as the corresponding organs are cleansed.

​Keep a Journal – 30-40 minutes a day 
  • Write down a list of good memories and what you are thankful for
  • Write down a list of bad memories and what you have learned from them
  • Before going to bed, write down the events of the day, from that moment going backwards to the time when you woke up
  • Before opening your eyes or making any movements in the morning, remember your dreams. If you do remember any, review them and write them down, before doing anything else.

"Coming-Off" a Cleansing Detox  |  Post Retreat Strategy
​The day after the cleanse, eat primarily raw or lightly steamed vegetables, fruit, or nuts. Portion sizes should be small, and the diet should be very similar to what you did to prepare for the cleanse—no sugar, coffee, wheat, gluten-containing foods, processed foods, or dairy.
​The next day, include more plant foods, such as beans, brown rice, or quinoa. Continue adding back foods you’d like to have in your regular diet. By the fifth day after the fast, resume eating regular meals.
Identify Your Allergies
​Some people use the days after a cleanse to identify their reactions to foods. To do this, keep a journal and reintroduce foods systematically, noting any changes in energy, digestion, cravings, or other symptoms.
​For example, gluten may be introduced in small amounts on the first day. Then note what happens over the 24– to 48-hour period after reintroducing each food. Dairy is another food category that is often reintroduced carefully and tested.
How Often Can I Cleanse?
​This is a general guideline to follow for the frequency of your raw food cleanses. Keep in mind that we are all different, and these recommendations may not suit everyone.
  • 1 day cleanse – once a week
  • 3 day cleanse - once a month
  • 4-6 day cleanse – once every 2 months
  • 7-10 day cleanse - once every 3 months
